Kendrick Castillo Request for Proposals for Design Concepts
OFFICIAL RULES AND REQUIREMENTS
PLEASE READ CAREFULLY. ARTISTS MUST ABIDE BY ALL RULES AND REQUIREMENTS IN ORDER TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS PROGRAM.
By submitting an application for this Request for Proposals, the artist agrees that the information provided in this application is accurate and correct to the best of their knowledge. The artist is the person submitting this application and all work is original. Submittal of an application does not mean selection for this Request for Proposals.
ELIGIBILITY
- Applications may be submitted by artists and/or artist teams over 18 years of age.
- All work must be the result of an independent and/or team effort that is original in concept and not the product of instructional guidance.
- Any variety of materials may be incorporated, but the project in its entirety must require minimal to no maintenance.
- Sculptures must be able to withstand the intense sun, snow, wind and temperature extremes and weather fluctuations common in Colorado.
- Sculptures must be safe for public interaction of all ages as the sculpture will be placed in an outdoor park. This means, but is not limited to, people touching the sculpture, hanging from it, banging on it, etc.
APPLICATION
- Applications must be submitted no later than Friday, Dec. 9, 2022 by 11:59 p.m.
- Artists may submit up to five design concepts, but only one application is needed.
- Artists must submit one to three images of their design concept, which can be a drawing or rendering, computer graphic image, etc. Image size must meet requirements identified on ArtCall.org.
- All entries must include an estimated description of the installation process, specific to each design concept submitted.
- The Kendrick Castillo Memorial Committee reserves the right to reject any applications that do not meet eligibility requirements and/or are incomplete.
- The sale price included on the application must remain the cost of the work moving forward, if selected. The only reason for a change in cost, is if the Committee and artist discuss adjustments to the submitted design concept and that change requires additional work, materials, etc., markedly different from the original submittal.
IF SELECTED
- If selected, the completed sculpture must represent the design concept submitted and/or any adjustments recommended and discussed by the Committee. A final design concept may be requested that will be included as part of the contract or agreement with the artist.
- The Committee retains the right to reject work differing materially from the agreed upon design concept.
- The artist is responsible for delivering their work for installation, including coordinating with the Committee, Douglas County, and the Highlands Ranch Metro District as needed. The selected work must be delivered to Civic Green Park on the date and time selected that the artist and the parties agreed to.
- Artists must work closely with the parties until installation is complete and provide cleaning maintenance instructions. The artist may sign off on installation once complete.
- Artist must provide information on how to install and maintain the piece, including cleaning products and methods. Highlands Ranch Metro District is responsible for maintaining the piece and agrees to perform regular evaluations and maintenance of the installed piece.
COMPENSATION
- The artist will receive payment for their sculpture, payable after completion of the installation process. The amount will be included in the contract.
MARKETING AND PROMOTION
- The sculpture may be promoted throughout Douglas County and surrounding areas.
- The Committee, Douglas County, and the Highlands Ranch Metro District reserve the right to reproduce and distribute artwork images through print and electronic media for promotion of the sculpture. This includes images submitted through the application process, as well as photos taken of the piece after installation.
- A plaque will be installed along with the sculpture that includes the title of the piece, the artist’s name, and a brief description of the piece and/or information about Kendrick Castillo. This information may also appear throughout the county and on websites.
CONTRACT
Artists will work directly with the parties regarding the contract and installation.
